Jaivant Patel Dance: Reimagining Queer South Asian Narratives

‘YAATRA‘, ‘Waltzing The Blue Gods’ and ‘I Am Your Skin’ are just some of the ground-breaking dance theatre and short film works Jaivant Patel Dance has created, in amplifying South Asian LGBTQ+ narratives that recontextualise the Queer South Asian body in space.

These works interweave, assimilate and blend Kathak and contemporary dance forms to create bold work; that reimagines and celebrates intercultural narratives and the intersectionality of modern lived experiences.

This evening features an in-conversation with Jaivant Patel (Artistic Director, Jaivant Patel Dance) and Deborah Kermode (Artistic Director, MAC) about the artistic vision of the company, screening of a mini documentary on upcoming production ‘Waltzing The Blue Gods’, screening of short film ‘I Am Your Skin’, an extract of ‘YAATRA’ performed by Jaivant Patel and a panel discussion led by SHOUT Festival on ‘South Asian Queerness and Gender Politics’.

Jaivant Patel Dance is an award-winning South Asian Arts organisation celebrating their 15th anniversary this year and is an associate artist at MAC.

This evening is presented by MAC in partnership with SHOUT Festival 2021.
