SHOUT21: Hidden Histories

A queer story-walk through the heart of Brum.

SHOUT’s Hidden Histories is a geo-tagged audio story walk through Birmingham’s queer histories, with a collection of new work from emerging writers and audio provided by local artists. SHOUT have been working with Birmingham based poet and writer Shaun Hill to support new work and create a digital audio walk through the gay village and into Digbeth, with stories responding to place, time and lived experience as queer people.

Hosted by Overhear, the mobile app that puts audio on the map, SHOUT’s Hidden Histories project will continue to work with local writers and queer people to develop new writing in response to the places and moments that have built Birmingham’s queer history.

To do the walk:

  1. Download the Overhear App
  2. Select SHOUT21
  3. Head to the story you wish to start at, and take a stroll! We recommend starting at The Fountain, with the story “Wick” by Shaun Hill. The stories will automatically play as you approach the pins on the map.
